How to find converting keywords

Whether you are going for Free Traffic ( SEO. ) or Paid ( PPC. ) Finding converting keywords is your ticket to success.

In every niche there are going to be a fair amount of targeted keywords, but are the keywords you choose targeted enough?

In the perfect scenario you should test the keywords you chose with Google Adwords first.

Scroll down for the free method:

Let me explain you why.

It can take months to hit that first page for the keywords you chose, and even then you are certainly not guaranteed to make those sales.  So this takes us back to the question “are your keywords targeted enough?”. Especially when you are just starting out, It will be hard to make a good indication whether the keywords you chose will convert.

We all know search engine optimizing / building a shitload of Backlinks takes time.

And for me time equals money.

So Instead of spending months to find out if the keywords you chose convert, You can use Google Adwords.

The process of picking keywords and Building your affiliate website remains the same, but this time you are skipping the “trying to rank the website” part. Which probably takes the most time in the first place.

I’m not going in detail on how to use Adwords, but the basics are simple.

  • Target the keywords you chose.
  • Build your ads around them.
  • Bid the minimum.

You only want to test, so a decent ROI ( Return of investment. ) would be nice, but you are just after a few sales to see if your keywords convert.

Testing is usually done with at least 200 clicks, and those clicks should get you at least one sale. Obviously 200 clicks is to much & to expensive for one sale, and all this will depend on how the product you chose converts, and how well your affiliate website is setup. ( Content, CTR, Opt-in, etc )

To get the best results you will need to split-test your ads, Improve your affiliate website & getting creative with testing different concepts.

The scenario above doesn’t apply to most of us here because you need a budget to get started, but this is the perfect way to test if the keywords you chose will convert when you hit that page 1.

To not disappoint the biggest part of my readers I’m going to explain how you can get a very good indication of converting keywords without testing the waters first.

For this part of the article I am going to take a example product.

Title: Dubturbo

Website: http://www.dubturbo.com

Description : Dubturbo is software to make beats. You can make beats easy & fast and in all sorts of genres.

Assuming I would want to promote dubturbo, I will start looking for keywords that would convert.

Normally I would make a selection of a lot more keywords and focus on exact search volume & the competition, but to help you with filtering the decent versus the good keywords I only picked 6 keywords.

Here is the list:

Find Converting Keywords

Now before you read on I want you to pick out the keywords that you think would convert best.

Got them in your head?

Are you sure?

Are you really sure?

Let’s filter the decent versus the good then.

The Decent:

  • How to make beats
  • How to make rap beats

Your visitors will want to know how to make beats, and before you can turn them into buyers you will need to convince them they need software to make beats first. You can probably make a few sales, but you are taking unnecessary extra steps .

Your visitors will most likely be searching for the “best” beat making software in a different tab already.

  • Free beat maker

Don’t think I need to explain that you need to ignore the word free in most cases in the world of affiliate marketing.

The Good:

  • Beat Maker Software
  • Beat Making Software
  • Software To Make Beats

Your visitors are searching exactly what you are trying to sell “Dubturbo”.

With these keywords you are picking up visitors with a way better mind set. They already want software to make beats, and the only thing you need to provide them is Dubturbo.

Keep in mind that people always want the best, so a good review website comparing other beat makers with Dubturbo will work like a charm.

There are always 3 types of searchers.

  1. Those who are just looking for information.
  2. Those who stumble upon and decide to purchase. ( Hard to catch. )
  3. Those who already want something, and want the best price and product.

You want to catch visitor number 3.

Martin,I don’t mean to brag or boast LOLL! but I’m searcher number 3

I’m always looking for the best product, and for the best price, but in “The Good” you put it right on the money, as a searcher I already know what I’m looking for, all the sales page has to do is convince me that the product is the best at doing what I need, and just like that KLA BOOM!!!! they get a sale from me I’m an esay buyer.

You are definitely the searcher affiliates want.

Comparing and reviewing products works like a charm with searcher number 3.

They usually just need that confirmation.

      This is pure logic.

When I want something, I first look for as much information I can find about the product.

The websites that provide me that information won’t generate a single sale out of me.

The website that compares prices and products will.

Searcher 1 can eventually turn in searcher 3, and that’s exactly where you want them.

    Hey there,
    thanks for the great info.
The thing I am finding difficult to understand is:If a keyword has medium to low competition, does that make it a valuable keyword? or is that keyword not worth using?

  3. Martin says:

On the Keyword Tool it only shows the competition for PPC.

The only way to research your competition is to Google the keywords and look at the top ranking websites.

I’m from the Netherlands, but I want US results so I use a web proxy.

You should then look at the top results and do your research:

How many Backlinks does the website have?
    How old is the website?
Does it have a exact domain for the keyword?
How much content is on the website?
Is it quality 500 word content?

Then it is up to you to decide whether you think it’s worth it.

Overall you should NOT be scared of the competition unless you are trying to outrank ebay for the keyword ebay.

And even that has been done!
