To become successful at affiliate marketing by natural search engine rankings, you will need to become successful at keyword research. This is the first step to success. Without the right keywords you won’t convert.
Before you read on, I want you to come up with a big list of targeted keywords. Place yourself in the situation of the searcher and ask yourself “what would I search if I wanted to make money playing video games”.
The first thing they teach you as a bartender is never to ask your customers if they want something to drink. You ask them what to drink. This way you are skipping the time wasting step called thinking.
So, instead of picking the keyword “Can I get paid playing video games?” you would go for “get paid playing video games”.
You don’t want to answer there question, then have them think about it.
Have you ever done a search for a product review? There are thousands of them. When your keyword does not trigger your reader but you do get him/her interested he/she is most likely going to do more research. Which means he/she is most likely buying the product trough a different affiliate link. You just lost a sale.
The keywords:
- Video game tester jobs ( 3600 global exact searches per month)
- Play games for money ( 1900 global exact searches per month)
- how to become a video game tester ( 1600 global exact searches per month) ( This one is a question, but instead of asking if they can become a game tester they want to know how to become a game tester.)
- how to become a game tester ( 1600 global exact searches per month) ( Same as the one above.)
- Get paid to play games ( 1300 global exact searches per month)
- Make money playing games ( 720 global exact searches per month)
Ranking on page one for any of the keywords above will make you money. If you are on page 1, and not making sales I will give you $100 out of my own pocket. Obviously your website will need content that provides the reader exactly what they are searching for, and not to forget content that Google loves.
Keywords you shouldn’t pick:
- Video game tester ( This keyword has a lot of searches. Most likely a lot of competition, but that is not the reason I picked this one. At least half of the people searching for this keyword are looking for more information about game testing. This keyword is simply to broad, and you will most likely end up in the situation I explained above.)
- Video game testing ( Same as above.)
There are a lot more keywords, so keep brainstorming and don’t forget what I told you. When you are going to write articles for your website you will need to find long tail keywords, but before that you need to pick a main keyword. And I wouldn’t recommend a main keyword with less then a 1000 exact searches per month.
Now the keyword research is done, we need to pick a good domain.
Domain Picking
The reason you have to pick a main keyword has a lot to do with the domain. Having your keyword in your domain has a lot of advantages. You will simply rank higher and easier.
Let’s say we went with the keyword Play games for money. A exact match domain would be perfect, but will most likely be gone already with thousands of affiliates always hunting for those sales.
Always give it a try! You never know.

- Use graphics in your articles ( Think the latest games )
- Use a picture of a person gaming ( Building trust )
- Explain your visitor why it’s possible to get paid playing games ( This is another big question they will wonder, read the landing page and you will easily be able to answer this question. )
- Explain them how you do nothing but game, and how great of a life style this is.
- Be creative.
